Andre Benjamin aka Andre 3000
Born in Atlanta on May 27, 1975 in poverty and by a single mother, Andre 3000 (also known as Andre Benjamin) is the complete opposite of his Outkast partner, Big Boi. Much more peculiar and introspective of the experimiental rap duo, Dre has chosen to take a much different path in life than his earlier lifestyle and character might have led you to believe.Andre 3000 was first introduced to the world (before Andre 3000 was simply Dre and was not quite as eccentric as he is now) with his guest appearance on Slimm Calhoun’s first single, “Its OK.” The newly invented rapper helped completely separate Outkast from the rest of the hip-hop world and establish themselves as original giants in the industry at a time when some thought, “hip-hop was only guns and alcohol” as Dre says in his Stankonia track, Humble Mumble.
Benjamin Andre dated neo soul musician Erykah Badu for several years and had a son with Badu named Seven. He mentioned their relationship in several songs and despite what rumors had, claims to have ended the relationship on a good note with the musician. He addresses the relationship in songs from Stankonia and The Love Below, including, “Ms. Jackson” and “A Life in the Day of Benjamin Andre.”
In 2003, Andre Benjamin demonstrated to the rest of the world his poetic genius and craft in the arts with the release of “The Love Below,” his half of "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below.”
Currently, Andre 3000 is working on an array of different projects from movies to art. He has been featured in the movies “The Shield,” “Be Cool,” “Revolver” and also had a leading role in the movie “Four Brothers.” He is now filming a movie with Big Boi on HBO before moving on to star in the dramatic role of a yet untitled film set to shoot in Louisiana, produced by Chesley Seals and Kat Hantas. He is also voicing a hawk in the movie Charlet's Web based on a book.
He is also scheduled to premier animated on a cartoon series called “Class of 3000” in November of 2006 on Cartoon Network.
