#9 on Top Billboard Hot 100 (2004)
#5 Hot Rap Tracks (2004)
#12 Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles, & Tracks (2004)
This single came from Andre’s half of Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. The song itself, did not do as good as their biggest singles off that album, Hey Ya and The Way You Move, however, it still proved to be a big success with a great video to go along with it.
Outkast Roses lyrics serve to explain another aspect of love that Andre target’s with his Speakerboxxx/The Love Below album using Outkast Caroline as the villain of his story. At first Dre’s lyrics may seem somewhat confusing and crazy with such euphemisms as “Roses smell like poo-poo” but it soon becomes clear what Dre is talking about when Big Boi comes up for a little straight-talking rap. I really enjoyed Big Boi’s verse in this song.
The Outkast Roses video proves just crazy as the Outkast lyrics for Roses itself. The video is set and somewhat based on the 1950s musical West Side Story. It includes appearances from Big Boi and the Dungeon Family representing Speakerboxxx, the rebellious gangsters of the video, and Mr. Biggly Farnsworth and Andre representing for The Love Below, the artistic, stage performers.
Oh so you're one them freaks, get geeked at the sight of ATM receipts
This is just a funny line to me. I can picture the type of “freaks” that he his talking about. Outkast always seems to draw such great pictures in their words.
But game been peeped, dropping names she's weakTrickin' off this bitch is lostMust take me for a geek a quick way to eatA neat place sleep, a rent-a-car for a week, a trick for a treat
I found these line pretty funny. Basically Big Boi’s saying he sees her game (find the guy, act like a trick for a week or two and you get your treat, the ability to use him for money) but he’s not falling for it.
No go on the raw sex, my AIDS test is flawless
Regardless, we don't want to get involved with no lawyers
I also found this line very entertaining. He basically tells Caroline “No, thank you” when offered the chance to get her pregnant than get involved with child support and headaches for the next eighteen years.
